'Guitar Hero' Studio Won't Allow Covers

If you're waiting for Guitar Hero World Tour to come out at the end of October because you plan on using the game's studio feature to create and share covers of your favorite rock songs, sorry, man. It's not going to happen.

It's simple really, since you don't own the rights to the songs, you can't record a version for distribution on Guitar Hero World Tour. You'll just have to work on your own material.

Here's Activision's Brian Bright explaining to 1up.com:

"We'll be actively monitoring the site. And, obviously, if the copyright holder
complains, Activision will pull it down immediately. We can't condone people
putting up covers of music. It's really there for original content."

Bright also touches on some abandoned ideas that would have been awesome, including a huge drum solo feature where skin-bangers could rock-out impromptu in the middle of songs, and "Jam Over " where you could play over any of the songs in the game's music studio.

Guitar Hero World Tour comes out on the PS2, PS3, 360, PC, and Wii on October 26th.

'Metal Gear Solid Existence' Emerges

Hinting on another title featuring the legendary soldier, a new project named Metal Gear Solid Existence emerged from Konami's trademark database.

According to SiliconEra, Konami has also registered the title Existence alone, without the Metal Gear Solid 4 precursor. Just like Kojima's masterpieces, very little is known about this project, but it may indicate an unveiling at this year's Tokyo Game Show, starting this October 9 through 12. Perhaps Existence could point to yet another Metal Gear Solid title expansion, similar to Metal Gear Sold 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance. All I Know is another MGS game would be pretty damn awesome.

Rock Band & Guitar Hero News

Last week it was revealed that six full albums are coming as Rock Band 2 downloadable content, and the names of those albums are:

The 7th full album that was also on the list, the Rock Band edition of Rush’s classic album Moving Pictures, has been delayed due to technical difficulties.

In Guitar Hero news, Nineties uber-group Smashing Pumpkins will debut their newest single as downloadable content for music game Guitar Hero World Tour, Activision announced. The song, "G.L.O.W.", will come in a track pack with "1979" and "The Everlasting Gaze" slated for a "post-launch" release.

Smashing Pumpkin's frontman Billy Corgan is set to be a playable character in the game, and SP hits "Today" and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" will be included with the game.

Dragonforce Debuting Single In 'Guitar Hero III'

Our very most super-favorite English speed metal band of all time, Dragonforce, will be releasing their newest single “Heroes of Our Time” – the debut single off their new album Ultra Beatdown – as a download in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock before the CD, Mp3 or cassette single goes on sale.

The song is part of a three-track pack hitting the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live on August 21st. The other two tracks--“Revolution Deathsquad” and “Operation Ground and Pound"-- are both from the Inhuman Rampage album. Look for all the songs to be ridonkulously hard; that's how Dragonforce rolls.

EA Teams Up With Epic Games, Grasshopper Manufacture

Gears of War 2 developer Epic Games and the creators of No More Heroes, Grasshopper Manufacture, have agreed to publish their titles under the Electronic Arts brand, as announced by the company today. EA also recently partnered with Doom creators id Software to publish their upcoming title, Rage.

"Epic is excited to work with EA Partners to launch our next big IP on the global stage," said by Mark Rein, president of Epic Games. The new, unnamed Epic title is being developed for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360. Meanwhile, Grasshopper Manufacture's upcoming action-horror title for the same platforms is being produced by Shinji Mikami, the man behind Resident Evil.

"[EA is] a great partner who shares our commitment to quality and innovation while respecting our independence as a studio, which is very empowering," said by Grasshopper CEO Goichi Suda, who is also directing their upcoming game with EA.

Unlike the past two summers, Square Enix isn't holding a general-admission event. Instead, the company invited select fans to a private party held today cryptically called "DK Sigma 3713." At the ongoing event, attendees played the latest demos and saw the newest trailers from Square Enix, which also used the proceedings to make some newsworthy announcements.

Since its first unveiling on 2006, Final Fantasy XIII has already captured the hearts of role-playing game fanatics. Now, Square-Enix has given us something to look forward to, as they have confirmed that a Playstation 3 demo will arrive this March in Japan.

The demo will be accompanied by the Blu Ray debut of the epic RPG movie sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Expect the demo to hit our shores soon enough after it conquers Japan. And Japan and North America have the same region coding for Blu Ray discs, so all you importers can watch Cloud Strife and the gang in full HD. Final Fantasy XIII is set for a 2009 release for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

Also at the event, game director Motomu Toriyama reconfirmed that, "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later." That means that since the game will be released simultaneously on both platforms in North America and Europe, the PS3 release will be held back in those territories until the 360 version is complete.

Furthermore, Toriyama also revealed that, as of July 29, his team hasn't yet received the tools needed to begin work on the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII. "I'm telling them to not think about the Xbox 360 right now," he said. "We can think about it after the development kits arrive."

The game Final Fantasy Agito XIII, originally announced for mobile phones, is now officially making its way to the PSP. the game doesnt have a release date yet. Final Fantasy Versus XIII, remains a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

'Rock Band' Gets Expensive for Australia

According to the folks at Kotaku, employees at some of the bigger retail stores in Australia are saying that Aussies are going to be stuck with a fat bill if they're interested in getting the full Rock Band experience. The US bundle, which includes a mic, guitar, drums, and the game is going to run state-siders $160. But down under, they're going to get reemed as the game is not bundled to anything and the peripherals are mostly sold separately. So, let's do some math, shall we?

Australian prices converted to US dollars.
The Game = $114
One Guitar = $105
Drums = $152
Microphone = $TBA
"Hardware Kit" (Drums, Mic, and One Guitar) = $275

So, the cheapest way to go is the Hardware Kit and the game which will run Aussies $389, but that's not even the full experience if you want two guitars.

'Guitar Hero World Tour' Setlist Leak?

The interwebz are buzzing with news that the Guitar Hero World Tour complete setlist may have leaked. Keep in mind, no one has any way of knowing this information is correct, but it seems plausible, and even likely, given what we know of tracks that have been rumored for awhile.

Among the surprises: Michael Jackson's "Beat It,"Guns and Roses "Paradise City," Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," NOFX "Soul Doubt" The Doors, "Light My Fire," and a "guitar battle" with Sting. Nintendo Controllers Could Face Ban

After losing a patent infringement case this recent May filed by Texas-based company Anascape in 2006, Nintendo's signature controllers could face a potential ban, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The following controllers are facing a potential halt in sales: Wii Classic Controller, Wii Nunchuk, GameCube controller, and GameCube Wavebird wireless controller. Nintendo requested another trial last week, but a Texas judge denied it. If the ban was to be issued, it wouldn't be in effect until an appeal by Nintendo on the original ruling was resolved. Bloomberg also reports that Nintendo could evade the ban by posting a bond into an escrow account.

In the original suit, Anascape stated that Nintendo violated their company's several technology patents that include vibration feedback, analog sensors and more controller applicable functions. Anascape also sued Microsoft with the same charges. Nintendo was ordered to give a $21 million fine after losing the case in May.

Wii-Mote Blood Pressure Check Add-On

That's right, Nintendo filed a patent for a Wii-Mote blood pressure check add-on. According to Spong's report, the add-on will allow the following functions and features:

"Pulse and body temperature of a user playing a video game on the video game console, and a rotation counter for counting the number of rotations of the main body; a control unit mounted in the recess; a band including two second measurement devices for measuring blood pressure and pulse respectively by wrapping the band around the wrist; and a cable interconnecting the main body and the band. Blood pressure, pulse, and body temperature values are shown the display while playing."

Availability and release information of the add-on is not disclosed as of yet, but at least now, the next Gramma visits, let her know that she can soon play Wii Tennis with you without any worry.
