Nintendo Controllers Could Face Ban

After losing a patent infringement case this recent May filed by Texas-based company Anascape in 2006, Nintendo's signature controllers could face a potential ban, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The following controllers are facing a potential halt in sales: Wii Classic Controller, Wii Nunchuk, GameCube controller, and GameCube Wavebird wireless controller. Nintendo requested another trial last week, but a Texas judge denied it. If the ban was to be issued, it wouldn't be in effect until an appeal by Nintendo on the original ruling was resolved. Bloomberg also reports that Nintendo could evade the ban by posting a bond into an escrow account.

In the original suit, Anascape stated that Nintendo violated their company's several technology patents that include vibration feedback, analog sensors and more controller applicable functions. Anascape also sued Microsoft with the same charges. Nintendo was ordered to give a $21 million fine after losing the case in May.

E3 08: Nintendo Press Conference

Nintendo has it's turn at E3 this afternoon with their press conference earlier this afternoon at The Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The opening video showed families, parents, kids, basically gamers of all ages playing the Wii and DS. And then... and I don't know what the hell this was about, it kinda put me to sleep but a woman named Cammie Dunaway took the stage. She told stories about her kid, and yada, yada, yada. "As a Mom, it helps to be at a company like Nintendo," Dunaway says. Again I almost fell asleep.

Then Nintendo got down to business and began showing off games by having Shaun White demo Shaun White Snowboarding with the Wii Balance Board. Also announced was Animal Crossing City Folk. And then Reggie Fils-Aime (more commonly knows as just Reggie) took the stage and said that by the end of this year, DS sales will grow to almost 100 million systems and that the Wii will become the best-selling console in America this generation cycle. He then announces for the Wii Star Wars Clone Wars, Raymann's Raving Rabbids TV Party, And Call of Duty: World at War. Announced for the DS were Guitar Hero On Tour Decades, Spore: The DS, Pokemon Ranger, and Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars.

Maybe the most interesting thing seen at the press conference was the introduction of Wii Motion Plus. It's a Wii-Mote add-on that increases the sensitivity and accuracy of the Wii-Mote. Reggie said it's "one-to-one motion control". Wii Sports Resort was announced and it comes bundled with a Wii Motion Plus. Then Mr. Miyamoto came on stage to show off Wii Music.
